Online reflection 3

I have read the book The Hunger Games, this story is about 24 young people from twelve different districts that will be selected to participate in the Hunger Games, which is the biggest TV-show they have in the city. To get selected you have to be between 12 and 18 years old and two people from each district are being chosen by a lottery and then sent to the capital city.

The selected participants will then participate in live interviews, showcase their skills and be trained to survive a fight. A big reason of the interviews and live-television is to attract votes from the viewers so they could like them.  After that the participants will be sent to a playground in the woods where they have to war against each other. There are 24 participants but only one will survive.

When I read the book there was one part that I got fixed by, it was when Katniss Everdeen who is sixteen years old choose to sacrifice herself to the war for her younger sister Primrose Everdeen. She is only twelve years old and becomes chosen to the hunger game but her sister loves her so much that she voluntarily reports, and knew that this could lead to her death.

I got such an incredibly strong feeling when I read this and felt a huge happiness, of course you should sacrifice yourself for your family because they are your flesh and blood. Family is the most important thing we have and some we need to stand up for. But if we look at the society of today, we have chosen to live an extremely individual and selfish life. I think there are very few who make small sacrifices for their loved ones and rather helps them when they really need it. How many choose to call their parents every day or ask their old grandparents if they need something from the market so they don’t have to go out when the winter is coming and it’s slippery outside?

There is also an big debate about all the beggars we have in Sweden, that they are here because of some criminal gangs and that all of the money that they gets goes to the leader of the group. No matter what these poor have to sit in the cold all day long. I have been against to give them money but I think they would appreciate a bun or hot dog that makes their stomach a little fuller. This scene in the book really made me think of humanity, I'm very familiar as a person but myself and many others should really be more fellows human in the society. If it goes past an old lady or gentleman across the street you should help them and not only pass in your everyday life. I think that more people should at least try to perform three good deeds every week for a period to see if this is appreciated by the surroundings and how they like a person will feel. I think people will feel much better.

Online reflection 2, Why work dosen't happen at work

Jason Frieds talks about why work doesn’t happened at work and he has a very interesting point of view.

I have thought about what might be the reason that we do not get as much done in our workplace, as we should, and I think that the main reason is flexibility. We always need to be available even after our shifts, by email or the phone. That takes a lot of time of our shifts because we always get disturbed. Another problem is teamwork, almost every workplace works with teamwork. It could be a group about ten persons and to find time to have meetings and to delegate tasks can be a problem to a team leader.  Therefore, it will be exactly as Jason says, that many hours are spent on unnecessary meetings.

I understand exactly what Jason means by the workers should refrain from meetings and cancel those that are not important. Every worker should have the ability to once or twice in a month refrain from all meetings to only focus on their tasks.

I think there are pros and cons of working from home and the most important thing is that the individual has the discipline and conduct of their duties at home. Then it is obviously important that technical equipment can be used at home, many are locked into their jobs for reasons of confidentiality.

It's very interesting what he says about managers and meetings, as there is a huge disturbance torques. In particular, managers who do not want to say anything but just peeking in and then begin to question why you are doing your tasks in a particular way are very annoying. At my workplace, we usually book a meeting with the manager when we have questions about the project or to show how far we have come. These meetings never books face to face only by our computer system, which allows that no one can be bothered in the task. Do we have questions for each other, we have to send an email instead of peek into each other's offices. I think more workplaces should introduce this system because the employees gets more work done and if someone have a urgent question or task they always writes that in the subject line.

Online reflection 1

That the sales of paper magazines begin to disappear is not surprising given that technology is constantly evolving. It can be a disadvantage to the newspapers to charge for their articles when they once were free and their competitors offer free reading on their webpages. Then it is especially important to offer the right news and to many different audiences. It is also scary that a newspaper can bring in more revenue from readers than advertisers. This shows that advertisers choose to market themselves through pages that are attractive. That they choose forum like Facebook, Google and various blogs are pretty obvious, given that those pages are those that millions of people visit every day.

The newspapers that choose to charge for their articles must carefully choose which items they are going to charge for because readers are not willing to pay for any item. Today it is easier to access news through social media, but also by watching the news on television.

Perhaps we have come to the trend that newspapers start to disappear and news shown through internet and television is the new source of information.
